Tom Brokaw (b. 1940), NBC News special correspondent, is a respected figure in broadcast journalism, having spent more than 40 years in the business, most of them at NBC. Mr. Brokaw began his journalism career in 1962 at KMTV in Omaha, Nebraska, and anchored the late evening news on Atlanta’s WSB-TV in 1965 before joining KNBC-TV in Los Angeles. He was hired by NBC News in 1966 and from 1976–1981 he anchored NBC News’s “Today” program. On December 1, 2004, Mr. Brokaw stepped down after 21 years as the anchor and managing editor of “NBC Nightly News.” He became the interim moderator on “Meet the Press” in June 2008 and continues to report and produce long-form documentaries and provide expertise during election coverage and breaking news events for NBC News as a special correspondent.

Mr. Brokaw graduated from the University of South Dakota in 1962, and he holds honorary degrees from colleges and universities nationwide. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences has received numerous other honors, including the Edward R. Murrow Lifetime Achievement Award and the Emmy Award for Lifetime Achievement. He was the recipient of the West Point Sylvanus Thayer Award, in recognition of devoted service to bringing exclusive interviews and stories to public attention.

Mr. Brokaw has reported the events and issues that define human experience worldwide in the past 40+ years, with a body of work that ranges from interviews with international heads of state to documentaries on conflicts public and private. He is the author of numerous books, articles, essays, and commentaries.
